WEEK - 3 (no AOW due to weathered out meets) WEEK - 4 2024 - Minden 9/10 / Axtell Invite / Waverly Invite - Athletes of the Week Girls Field - Kinsie Land & Emma Goodrich *** Kinsie Land (Jr) is being recognized as Athlete of the Week following her remarkable achievement in the High Jump at the Waverly Invite. She not only secured a Gold Medal but also achieved a notable height of 5 feet 2 inches, standing out in a highly competitive field. This performance is a testament to Kinsie's rising prominence as one of the top high jumpers both in the area and statewide. This is Kinsie’s 2nd AOW Honor this spring. *** Emma Goodrich (Fr) is being honored as Athlete of the Week for her dedication and improvement in discus. Demonstrating exceptional determination and perseverance, Emma has invested extra time and effort into enhancing her discus skills. Her hard work paid off at the Axtell Invite, where she earned a 6th place finish with a throw of 95 feet 5.5 inches. This achievement ranks her throw as the third best by a freshman in the Hub Area and the second best by a freshman in the SWC, showcasing her potential and commitment to the sport. Boys Field - Austin Lutkemeier *** Austin Lutkemeier (Sr) is being named Athlete of the Week for his exceptional performance at the Waverly Invite, recognized as possibly the most challenging Class B meet this spring. Austin achieved season-best efforts in both the Shot Put, with a throw of 50 feet 9 inches earning him 3rd place, and the Discus, with a throw of 149 feet 6 inches for 4th place. These accomplishments place him in the Top 8 for Class B this spring in both events and highlight him as one of the top throwers in both the SWC and Hub Area. Girls Track - Alexa Warner & Gabbie Lee *** Alexa Warner (Fr) is being named Athlete of the Week for her notable achievements in distance running. She significantly reduced her time in the 3200m event, finishing in 12:57.48, a performance that not only placed her under the 13-minute mark but also ranked her 3rd in the SWC and 5th in the Hub Area. Impressively, this time is the fastest by a freshman in over 15 years and the 3rd fastest overall for Minden. Additionally, Alexa successfully completed both the 1600m and 3200m events at the Waverly Invite, showcasing her endurance and versatility as a young athlete. This is Alexa’s 2nd AOW Honor this spring. *** Gabbie Lee (Fr) is being recognized as Athlete of the Week due to her consistent improvement and exceptional performance in the 800m event, whether part of the 3200m Relay or as an individual competitor. Gabbie has managed to shave off 5 seconds each time she performs her race. Her determination, positive "can do" attitude, and ability to lead by example have made her an invaluable asset to the program, showcasing not just her athletic talent but also her strong character and leadership qualities. Boys Track - Brett Eckhardt & Gage Thull *** Brett Eckhardt (Jr), is being honored as Athlete of the Week following his outstanding performance in the 110m Hurdles at the Waverly Invite, where he achieved a personal record of 15.45 seconds and secured a 7th place finish. Demonstrating consistent improvement in every competition, Brett's efforts have earned him a second-place ranking in the SWC, Hub Area, and B5 District for the 110m Hurdles. In addition to his achievements in the hurdles, Brett is also making notable progress in the 300m Hurdles and contributing strong performances in the 4x400m relay, showcasing his versatility and commitment to excellence in track and field. This is Brett’s 2nd AOW Honor this spring. *** Gage Thull (Jr) earned the Athlete of the Week award due to his dedication and consistent improvement in middle-distance running. Known for his coachability and determination, Gage achieved a new personal best in the 1600m with a time of 5:12.64 at the Waverly meet, nearing the coveted sub-5:00 mark. His performance ranks as the 3rd best time for freshmen in the SWC, 5th in the Hub Area, and 4th in the B5 District, highlighting Gage's potential and promising future in track and field. Track & Field - Cade Harsin *** Cade Harsin (Jr) is being recognized as Athlete of the Week for his exceptional performance at the Waverly Invite, where he competed in the 100m, 200m, 800m, and pole vault events. Despite the challenges of managing a busy schedule and competing in multiple events throughout the day, Cade demonstrated remarkable grit and determination. This was particularly noteworthy as he has been contending with tendonitis. Despite this obstacle, Cade achieved personal bests in three events: the pole vault, 100m, and 200m, showcasing his resilience and dedication to his sport.
